 Simple accounting packages
« Thread Started on Jul 29, 2010, 8:02am »

Having recently been surveying simple accounting packages for an organisation, I found that, if you do not need payroll or VAT, KMyMoney offers the greatest flexibility and range of features. Though written to conform to accountancy principles, every effort has been made to make it easy to use by ordinary people while warning you whenever you might be doing something suspect.

However, it may have too many features for some people's needs; in which case HomeBank seems to be the favoured choice.

If you need VAT, vatstuff is the way to go and for payroll gnucash.

For tax returns, I simply export the annual transaction report to CSV and put it into a spreadsheet for my accountant. You only need a Revenue approved package if you are going to submit it to them direct.

There's also Gnucash - http://www.gnucash.org/

Personally I have a very strong fondness for spreadsheets and use OpenOffice for this purpose.

VATStuff version 0.7.0 is just published, hopefully being a version very close to completion:

This version also has a 'Windows' cough/splutter installer.
