VATStuff version 0.7.0 is just published, hopefully being a version very close to completion:

http://www.vatstuff.co.uk

This version also has a 'Windows' cough/splutter installer.

 Python workshop
« Result #2 on Oct 15, 2010, 10:19am »

The Python workshop registration is open, at:

http://ypy.eventbrite.com

If you want to come, please register asap as spaces are limited.

The event will be on Saturday 11th December.

At the end of the day there will be a series of empty ten minute timeslots - if anyone has any particular project on, or proposed, they are available for you to get up and present them to the rest of us. Otherwise we'll be filling them with short descriptions of Python modules and stuff.

Cheers - Bernie

Out of the list I vote for 'The Sir Titus Salt'.
The main reason for my choice is that there are vegetarian options that I like and I don't want pizza/pasta or anything very spicy.

 BradLUG Christmas Meal 2010
« Result #4 on Oct 4, 2010, 8:31pm »

I know that Christmas (or your choice of mid-winter festival!) still seems a long way away, but it's probably worth us starting to think about where we'd like to have our traditional meal, as some places do require booking in advance. Last year we went for a curry at the Karachi - seems it was enjoyed a lot by some and not a lot by others!

The date of the meal will be Friday 10th December - so no need to be worried about getting up for school the following day!

In the interests of the group (and the fact that it's better than actually working) I've had a look round some local eateries, and here's what I've come up with so far:

The Sir Titus Salt, Morley St - £6.99 for one course (includes a drink), £8.99 for two courses or £10.99 for three courses.

Bradford Hilton - £29.95 per person including 3 course meal, half bottle of wine and DJ until 1.30am.

Midland Hotel - Early Bird £18.95 for 3 courses and glass of wine between 5pm and 6.30pm (might be difficult for some to get to!)

The Ital, Bolton Rd - £21.95 for 3 courses

Frankie & Benny's, Leisure Exchange - £15.95 for 2 courses or £17.95 for 3 courses

This is, of course, just a selection of what's around the city centre. It may be that we all go for a curry again in the end! I'm happy to help with the organisation (if needed) once the group has decided where to go!

Let me have your suggestions, either via the list, forum or directly to me (andreacoletteryan at googlemail.com) and I'll set up a poll. Which hopefully will be as fair and equitable as last year's poll, ahem.

Cheers
Andrea

But you can't currently subscribe to threads which aren't yet created in that way. And it doesn't defeat the point of a forum if it actually works - the lug Mailman server keeps not sending out emails properly. It also gives the choice of what you subscribe to - everything or just certain topics. And it gives a nicer archive than the standard mailman mail archive.

Another request was for RSS subscriptions alongside email ones because many people prefer reading things in RSS format to getting them in email.

If it's email notification on replies to threads you want, then you can do that on here!

I was under the impression that people wanted email notification every time anything was posted on the forum (but IMHO that defeats the entire point of a forum!).

Anyway, to get email notifications on reply to threads, you need to

1. Set your user profile to send emails on reply to bookmarked threads (you only need to do this once):
- Go to Profile (under the forum name at the top of each page)
- Click 'Bookmarks' link (at the top next to 'Member's Bio')
- Click 'Click here to manage your bookmarks preferences' link
- Select 'Email notification' from the dropdown box
- Click 'Update Bookmarks and Preferences' button

2. Bookmark any thread(s) you are interested by using the 'bookmark' button in the header/footer of each thread.

Simples!!

So then, a more functional forum.

Martyn mentioned something but I can't remember what it was. I don't think any of us really think phpBB is viable so then discuss.
